Laura Laurens

Laura Laurens is a self-taught designer who launched her eponymous brand in Paris with the SS14 collection. She is recognized for using fashion as a platform to foster social cohesion. Inspired by her background in fine arts, Laura establishes a dialogue between opposites to challenge the concepts of borders, identity, and cultural syncretism. Her work is characterized by a raw approach to design, textile interventions, repurposed military fabrics, wraparound shapes, artisanal processes, a commitment to sustainable practices, and collaborations with various minority social groups.

Laurens draws from her experiences in transdisciplinary projects where the impossible becomes interwoven. She has collaborated on projects in South Africa with the Sharpeville Human Rights Precinct community, in Bolivia with Las Cholas, and with her collective alongside the transgender Indigenous Embera Chamí community. Additionally, she has worked with various communities in her native Colombia, such as her project with AgroArte in the Cauca department to re-signify the use of coca leaves and her collaboration with the Kamëntsá Indigenous Community in the Sibundoy Valley.

Her brand has been featured in stores such as Penelope, Opening Ceremony, Linda Dresner, IF Soho NY, Tom Greyhound Paris, and Les Suites Boutique Paris, among others. Additionally, she has a shop in Bogotá that showcases other responsible South American brands.

Laura Laurens has gained recognition for her innovative and socially conscious approach to fashion, showcasing her collections at various events worldwide. Her work emphasizes social and environmental consciousness, blending contemporary fashion with cultural narratives. Her brand is celebrated for its artistic and conceptual approach, driving the movement toward more responsible creative practices. She has been invited as a speaker on social and environmental sustainability at universities such as Parsons NY, Uppsala University in Stockholm, and UTS Sydney.

Institutions such as Vogue Talents, the Institut Français de la Mode in Paris, Li Edelkoort, Vogue Italia, the British Fashion Council, Deutsche Welle, and Fashion Trust Arabia have acknowledged her work with exhibitions and special mentions, celebrating her commitment to creating a more conscious and inclusive world.
